2nd worst half marathon ever!

Ok, so I'm updating the blog as per Nicster's request.

So I had a pretty good Sporting Life 10K run, considering I'm not in the best shape I've been in, and I still managed to do break 55 minutes by over a minute and a half. I did hurt for 2 days from it, but it was well worth it. I felt so good after that run. Then I went to NY, and did not run at all over the week.

On Sunday I ran the Mississauga Half. It was horrible. I had stomach cramps the entire run. And my back was hurting me. I had to walk so much it was depressing. And it was my second worst time ever. I've run 13 of them. After I finish this race, I always walk back about half a km or more to cheer people on and wait for my sister, to run the last bit with her.....I found her, she had just as bad a run as I did (except she never trains at all for these), and then I couldn't even run back with her! That's how bad of a day I had! To make me feel worse, one of the girls I always run with broke 2 hours. I used to run faster than her. Except she's just been so consistent with her training over the last year or so...I haven't.

My legs were killing me yesterday, and I think I made it worse by playing baseball last night - running around the bases, so they're hurting a little more today.

So here's my goal. I need to shake off the bad vibes from my run on Sunday and get back into it! This summer is going to be the summer of running. I'm going to get back into consistent training runs....and maybe cut back on the booze!

I Did It! - cj runs her first 10K!

and I can't wait to do anotehr.

Although I did not hit my goal of running it in under 60 min (I clocked in at 66 min and 2 sec), I have the bug!

Ran solo all the way, and was very over-whlemed at the amount of people!

What an awesome event!

Muscles still hurting today...but totally, totally worth it!

Yeah me!

One more week till taper for Nicola!!

Monday May 5th -- Day sixty-seven
I did a slight jog this morning and was so sore that I had to suck it up for a short cold bath afterwards. I don't care if it's theoretical, I think it helped! In the evening, did a 55min run with BW.
Km : 19

Tuesday May 6th -- Day sixty-eight
Aaah nice easy morning with some sit-ups for kicks. I had a brutal work day (I swear I almost lost it!!) and wasn't coping well with all the demands that keep being put on me. BUT as soon as I got home, I headed out at 6pm and ran for 90 minutes and hit as many trails as I could. That made my day MUCH better!!
Km : 21

Wednesday May 7th -- Day sixty-nine
No morning run. Grumpy run from yesterday has followed me today. After work I trekked up to Nmkt for track practice. 7k w' up, 4x200 (35-37, faster this time). 800(2:44), 1.2k(4:04), 600 (1:56), 1k (3:24), 1.6k (5:33), 1k (3:23). 4k c'down. Felt ok but wish I was faster. I must be nervous already with all this negative energy.
Km : 18

Thursday May 8th -- Day seventy
Easy 12km
Km : 12

Friday May 9th -- Day seventy-one
Met Brooks peeps for 10+k at marathon pace. Only did half of it, got all uptight and tense about work to do that day and other crap, etc, etc, etc! Shake it off. Pull yourself together Nic! 5.4k @ 3.39/k pace.
Km : 15

Saturday May 10th -- Day seventy-two
Run with SR and BSD for a social outing. 57min
Km : 13

Sunday May 11th -- Day seventy-three
Total procrastination day. I babysat my niece and nephew in the morning, then instead of running Oakville, I hung out with my bro for the afternoon. Finally I left my house at 4pm with the intention of doing at least a semi-long run. Well, things perked up and I clocked 2:22! Yay me!!! Taper starts tomorrow. I hope my moods co-operate!

First Full Work Week

Okay, so I haven't been blogging as often as I should. I thought I would have dropped totally off, but it seems I've been able to run a fair bit. Let's see if I can re-cap:
Monday - 40 mins in the evening - I went fast too - felt awesome and just pretty much tempoed the whole way.
Tuesday - 55 mins in the a.m. - had to run to a bank downtown to sign a paper, so ran there and home the long way (up to the Danforth).
Wednesday - felt super tired after work and my shift with Hugsy, but Tanis (my sister) has signed up for a 5 KM corporate challenge with work, so I went to the Riverdale track with her to run a 2 mile tempo. It totally perked me up and gave me energy, although it was only a 4 mile total effort for me.
Thusday (today) I've taken off 'cause of work/home duties, but I'm working from home tomorrow so plan on running in the a.m. - stay tuned...

CJ update - back in the game

After a couple weeks of life being totally off the rocker, running seemed to have went astray.

However, after a good pep talk from friends and angels....I think I am geared back up the the sportingl like 10K.

Ran 4 miles on Tuesday, and 4 miles today (Thursday)...and feel awesome!

Planning to do a small run on Friday and then break of Sat.

In case any of you see a strange puff of smoke on yonge street early sunday mornin'....yeah, that'll be me kickin ass in my first 10K!

Thanks for all the support ladies!

Nico Week Nine-Oh

Monday April 28th -- Day sixty
Ok, I've given up the food discipline of the 84 days. I've been pretty good about what I've been eating but I have gained a pound or two! I totally thought I'd be tiny by now. Oh well, at least I'm running well.
Today I did a very easy morning run in Montreal with one of my workmates. I got home at 8pm then headed out again. I had a "Snow White" kind of run. The birds were chirping, squirrels and bunnies were crossing the path and then -- a buck and a doe ran by! The doe stopped and gave me a wink then kept going. Oh Toronto...who knew?
Km : 17

Tuesday April 29th -- Day sixty-one
Brrrr chillsville. Ran in evening 1hr 28min
Km : 20

Wednesday April 30th -- Day sixty-two
No morning run, just lazy and stressed with heavy work stuff. In the evening I worked out on the track in Newmarket. We did 4x200(I couldn't break 36 -Doh!), 1.6k (5:37), 2x0.8k (2:44), 3x1k(3:25). One teammate mentioned my "slow" times. I guess he was right - I used to average 3:10-3:15 for 6k work-outs. Hopefully I'll be back there by fall!
Km : 17

Thursday May 1st -- Day sixty-three
Chiro in am. Lots of work. I feel stressed and I also pigged out today. I'm taking a day off so I'll feel rested for the weekend (not to mention my tummy probably wouldn't co-operate anyway!)
Km : 0

Friday May 2nd -- Day sixty-four
Ok, so some of my discipline has waned. No am run. I did get out (after a nap) later this afternoon for 1hr 20min. I feel SO tired, it's crazy. I'm sure it's from the change in weather and all the flora blooming out there.
Km : 18

Saturday May 3rd -- Day sixty-five
I have been a real whiner this week, eh? I'm sure it's from a couple of crazy weeks of work, travel and trying to run fast. This morning I feel better. I skipped a bike ride with Dr Z (sorry to bail!) and took a leisurely first couple hours to the day. Then I drove to the west end of the belt line and ran for 1hr 19mins and really enjoyed it. If I get the gumption today, I might even do some yoga to help relax before the big effort tomorrow.
Km : 18

Sunday May 4th -- Day sixty-six
Big ol' marsh run, last one before race day. 35km in 2:16:35. I think we were fairly even. I fell back from the leaders over the last 3km but I guess that's ok...I'll guess at splits for each 6k: 27:21, 47:2, 1:11:20, 1:34? 1:54:51.
Km : 37 (w' wup and c'down)

Come on Maggie!

I'm recapping Nicster's "race" last weekend.

First she ran for an hour and a half, and was conned into running the inaugural 11km run. Everyone was running fast, Nicster started out slow, talked to one of the locals, who said Maggie was the one to beat. She asked Nicster what her time was..."Don't you mean 42 minutes sweetie?" UHM NO. 32 minutes.

Then she caught up to Maggie, chatted her up a bit. Let her take the lead. Then raced passed her, told her, "Come on Maggie, let's go"....and left Maggie way behind...by 2 minutes!

New phrase of the week..."Come on Maggie!".

Anyways, to sum up my week - not nearly as good as Nicster's.....I only ran Mon, Tues, Fri & Sat...not the greatest runs. My sat run was horrible, I only did 15.5 kms, and it was a good thing there were two bathrooms on the route. The good thing about last week was that a vendor took us out for an excellent dinner with a couple bottles of $200 red wine. Can't complain about that!

Sporting Life Sunday! Woohoo! Come on Maggie! CJ's going to rock (as long as she doesn't actually wear her sporting life tshirt).

Nicadoodle Week 8

Monday April 21 -- Day fifty-three
Ouch! Back is back-breakin'! Tried to run after work and managed 43min. I'll call it 10k but that's questionable! Got chiro treatment in evening with acupuncture and ART. Hope it kicks in.
Km : 10

Tuesday April 22 -- Day fifty-four
Still very bad back. No run, no nothin'. Having a tough time getting around and especially getting up - maybe I should just stay standing?
Km : 0

Wednesday April 23 - Day fifty-five
Ok I need to get training here! Still stiff in am but I think not as bad. In afternoon went out for a jog. Very stiff till about 40min then things seemed to ease as long as I didn't stop (ie: traffic lights). Total time 1hr 10min.
I think it's time to get crackin' again! Can't afford to take much time here, so if I'm healthy enough in the morning I'll do a work-out. I have chiro at the crack of dawn so I'll tell him that I'm getting back on track - no pain allowed!
Km : 16

Thursday April 24th -- Day fifty-six
Ok, I have to thank goodness that the world developed chiropractors and acupuncture! I saw Dr DO'C this morning and he totally fixed me! I was able to do an 8k work-out at Mt Pleasant afterwards and averaged 3:23/km or something. Yahoooo! Then I flew to Calgary and no probs. I even did a 2nd run when I landed just to socialize with Jer D and Ken M. Oh I'm so happy!
Km : 25

Friday April 25th -- Day fifty-seven
Wow time is tickin' eh? Man I hope everything goes well on May 25......today I ran 1:17 with Lisa H and Jer D and Ken M in Calgary. I had to break out the tights and jacket again but it was worth it for the company.
Km : 17

Saturday April 26th -- Day fifty-eight
I got up early and drove to Canmore with Jer D. I don't usually tag on extras to business trips but I do love the Rockies. Jer and I ran 1hr 24min (I was hurtin' the first 1/2 hr!!! altitude? mountains? travel? I had tons of excuses!) then I hopped into the inaugural rocky mtn women's 11km race. The first loop I conceded to finish with a silver but during the 2nd loop I caught the leader and I couldn't resist but throw in a 2k surge to win me the crown by 2mins. It was probably a bigger effort than I needed to do today but for a total long run of 2hr 10min I really only pushed for about 10mins, so that can't be soooo bad??? I had to bolt right out of there to fly home and was pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to business class. Nice! Twice in two weeks that's happened...
Km : 30

Sunday April 27th -- Day fifty-nine
Geez this week went by fast! I can't believe there are only 4 weeks to go. Only one real long run left. I'm feeling good and ready and hungry (for a good race, well and hungry in general!) Today I had a tough time getting out of bed but managed to get out the door and drive up to Aurora to cheer on a bunch of Huskies in the 5k at Hartwell. BSD also drove up and did his long run. I did 70mins with lots of stops/starts for cheering and socializing (glad I did my long run yesterday!) Now off to Montreal for 25hrs. I should bring stuff to do a morning run but maybe I'll just do circuits in my hotel room instead! I don't want to check my bag, lazy me.

Julie's recap from last week

A much better running week for me! And hardly any alcohol!

Seanna - your beer mile record is mentioned in the latest issue of Canadian Running!!

Mon - Did an awesome hill training run - I haven't done hills since January, and I smoked my overall time by 45 seconds.

Tues - Light run with my sis. Legs still hurt from hills.

Wed - Tempo runs with the running room girls around Wanless Park.

Thurs - Rest

Fri - Light 5 k run.

Sat - Got my ass kicked on an 18.5 k run with one of the running room girls. Then I came home, walk / ran (more of a walk) up to Finch & Willowdale to meet my sis who ran from her house to mine (yup - she runs now), and then did a slow walk/run back to my house. Then helped my dad move furniture for two hours. Topped off the night at the Bier Markt - only 3 drinks all week!

I'm hoping to really push myself this week. I'd like to break 55 minutes at Sporting Life...and, although I'd love to break 2 hours at the Mississauga Half, I'll stick with a more realistic goal of about 2:06.

Back in T.O.

Saturday, April 19
Off. Does 12 hours of travel with an 11 1/2 month old count as exercise? There were non-stop squats of bending down to pick up/sort through luggage while holding a 20 lb baby, and non-stop lifting and carrying in various positions of said baby. My legs actually felt like they had had a workout the next day. One time I squated down while holding him and hovered there for a while almost not making it back up. Now THAT would have been embarrassing!

Sunday, April 20
run 1 hour. Awesome day! Legs were a bit fatigued (ref April 19) but it was so nice out that the run was enjoyable.

Monday, April 21
10 mins with H in the BOB to Riverdale Farms and the same home after hanging out. Is that log-able? Pretty pitiful.

Tuesday, April 22
42 mins in the evening. I went before dinner and was a tad underfueled so it felt harder than it should have.

Wednesday, April 23
Off. Hmm, maybe I will have to start training for something in order to get my butt out there??

Thursday, April 24
40 min run in the evening. Fealt great. Was well fuelled with H's leftover dinner. Nice evening.
Nic, do I really have to do the marathon, or can I just do the half?

Friday, April 25
Off. 1st day of work - exhausted! I was definitely feeling it at 2pm when I normally nap... (think I'd get much sympathy from my boss if I gave him that excuse??)

Sat, April 26
The guy I coach had a 45 min Tempo slotted for today so I told him I'd run it with him. I was expecting an easy effort as I've gotten together with him twice for workouts before. Wow. He seriously challenged me through the run. I'm super pleased - he's one of those awesome athletes you love to coach who follows your program to a T. Hope he has a good one in Mississauga. Total was 1 hour 4 mins for me.

Sunday, April 27
54 min run up don valley trail then down moore pk ravine. Nice. Then ran with Dan and H in the BOB to Riverdale Farm and back. Hey, I'm counting that! ok, Nic, I'll think about racing the Half. Better get in touch with Ross again. I'm not into the long long runs anymore, but I can handle some intensity (I think...)

Past halfway for Nicstah!! Week 7

Monday April 14th -- day forty-six
After work ran 1:16. Felt very dehydrated from yesterday's epic exercise but had to bolt to Oakville to see some sick kiddies.
Km : 17

Tuesday April 15th -- day forty-seven
OKAY! Today I feel it. Doesn't help that I barely had dins last night and only a drop of aqua. Ooops. Barely made it over 50mins.
Km : 12 (a generous 12!)

Wednesday April 16th -- day forty-eight
am: 20min to make up for last night's dismal effort!
pm: Track: 4k w'up, 4x200 (39-36 wow I'm slow!), 3x1.2k (4:08, 4:09, 4:07), 2x.8k (2:41, 2:39), 1.2k (4:04 - someone ran with me for two laps = much easier!) , 4k c'down. Felt pretty good just not zippy. Nice to be on the track, when did I start liking track work-outs???
Km : 20

Thursday April 17th -- day forty-nine
am: chiro for my spasmy back. Ouch!
pm: did my long run b/c of race this weekend. 2hr to a tee. Felt ok but tough to run at 5pm long after a 5:30am wake-up!
Km : 28

Friday April 18th -- day fifty
Ok I thought I'd added this but it never showed up onscreen. Darn!
Early morning start to fly to Mtrl (bumped up to business class = sweeeeeeeeet!) Busy day with work meetings all the way till dinner. No run but that's ok, I kind of knew it would be a day off.
Km : 0

Saturday April 19th -- day fifty-one
Ran up Mt Royal with 2 Brooks guys. On way back down back spasmed again. I couldn't even do strides, felt like the wind had been knocked out of me. Suck it up Buttercup! Asked Whitsey to do some work on it when I got back. Nerves???
Km : 10

Sunday April 20th -- day fifty-two
Race day! 1/2 marathon champs. I wish I was more fit then I would have run like TQS and sat with Catherine the Great (Ndereba) for as long as I could. As luck would have it, I was fortunate to even start the race. My back was in serious distress as soon as I woke up. After warm-up jog, I asked Coach if I should even attempt to race. He suggested to start then evaluate after a few km and bail if necessary. So I started (painfully!) but by 4km no more back pain and I got clickin'. I was pleased to finish 2nd Cdn in 1:15:21. Splits were silly : 17:30/17:40/17:56/18:24 - doh! Ok, I have some endurance to work on for the marathon next month! But I PB'ed in the drug testing with 2x the amount of sample required. Yay me! No cool down due to drug testing and then scooting out of there. Pleased with the day but worried about the consequences to my back. I have a marathon to run in 5 weeks!!!

Hatteras - week 2

Sunday, April 13
"Long" run of 1 hour. ok, not that long, but I ran the first bit of BSD's 18.5 miler with him. Pretty good - back into the wind.

Monday, April 14
48 mins - good with BSD. Felt good. Windsurfed later in the afternoon - good sesh.

Tuesday, April 15
Off running day. NUKIN' wind!!! Windsurfed in crazy over-powered conditions - scary sesh - only marginally 'fun'. Managed to not get catapulted or killed.

Wednesday, April 16
Wrkt w BSD. went into the crazy wind on the way out and with it back. 6 x 3 min on, 2 min off. Felt strong. BSD was lagging - think he may be a tad under-rested. Then windsurfing again in crazy over-powered conditions but felt more comfortable than yesterday. My Dan said I looked better too. Whew! 'cause we all know it's about how you look.

Oh, and a comment on the alcohol - JLo - I'm drinking a tad much too. Oh well, it's vaycay. I'll try to cut back when I get home. It's been mostly beer and wine with some Pina Colada's thrown in and a G&T tonight.

Thursday, April 17
40 min VERY slow. Glad BSD is gone - don't think he would've stayed with me. Bod sore from windsurfing/running.

Friday, April 18
Last run down here. 48 mins. Good. Not much to elaborate on. Still drinking...

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Suzanne April 15

Ladeez! way to go CJ! Jlo, can't wait to meet you--nice running for you too!

BSD in surfing with you seanna? jeals of the sun and ocean:)

Nicole's ironman sunday was uber impressive i gotta say. hope your presentation went well even though you were tired.

my first weekend of 1.5hr run instead of 2 and i have to say i felt a lot better. what a difference 30 mins makes! so, last night i ran 3 mins, 6 mins, 3 mins with hard with tara (uoft speedster) and then she was kind enough to run my 4 x 800s at race pace...hmm, can't say that felt easy, but as my mental coach told me this morning "if you want life to be easy, stay on the couch!"
i swam masters in the morning and lifted after Mount Pleasant workout.

this morning i did a hard interval session on the bike (after legs in the gym last night) and it was tough! will swim short and easy tonight and do upper body in the gym.

Good Alcohol week = Bad Running week

Monday - that Pilates video was the hardest thing I've ever done. And it was only a half hour session. It was worse than the first time we did Yoga together (and you ladies remember how bad I was then?!?).

Tues - best 5K run in about a year. 27.5 minutes (I know its twice as slow as the rest of you crazy runners!!). Then I celebrated with a couple martinis at Canoe and some wine with dinner at Jump.

Wed - Bistro 990 for dinner. Only 2-1/2 glasses of wine and one sour apple martini. No Running. But abs still hurt from Pilates on Monday.

Thurs - Volleyball night. We won! But no Running. No drinks either.

Fri - Drinks after work (only one vodka & cran) followed by Thai Food. No running.

Sat - 19kms again. Same route as last week, except no walking this time! Although, I was only about 5 minutes faster than last week, which meant I must have slowed down my pace quite a bit. But at least I ran it without walking! Tonight - will celebrate with a couple of Margaritas.

My plan for tomorrow - try the pilates video again! Next week - no alcohol.

Down in Hatteras

Friday, April 11
50 min run with BSD. Pretty solid - he said we were running 7:10's and we negative split it. Dan kept going for an hour, but I figure that an hour is unecessary at this point for me. I'm running to feel good, not tired. I've been running every day here so far, which is more than I've done in a while, but they've all been 40 min outings. Again, that seems to be the magic time range where I feel refreshed and satisfied, but not overly fatigued. Had some good windsurfing days and today I went for a little surf. Hopefully the ARMS will re-emerge...

Suzanne gets serious

'kay, thanks to Nic, i am polishing up my training plan to get serious for a fast 10k off the bike at worlds.

Monday:HARD master's swim 3.2 km
evening run in Mount P. of 2 x3min with 1 min and 3 x 1km at pace. cool down and strides, followed by upper body weights and abs

i was really spent last night...but i like the pace work stuff:)

Tuesday: Hard 1hr bike, 3km swim, legs and abs in weight room.

Nicoletta 1/2 way Week Six

Monday April 7th -- Day thirty-eight
Wow - time is flying! Can't believe it's about 1/2 way already. I am feeling the power!
Today - easy run with stretches after. Feeling the fatigue from that exercise-laden weekend. I love it!
Km : 17

Tuesday April 8th -- Day thirty-nine
Ummmmm helloooo??? Where is everyone? Whatevs. I'll labour on. Had an awesome run today in the gorgeous, warm sunshine. 1:22 total with 5x5min hard/2min jog. I woke up early and tried to do something - any exercise - but just wandered to the couch and slept another 20mins. The mornings aren't working out like they used to...soon they'll come back and I'll squeeze in some circuits or an extra few miles.
Km : 19

Wednesday April 9th -- Day FORTY
Yay! I did it! I finally woke up and did a morning run. 35min, I'll call it 8km. After work I scooted in 10km before catching "Spirit of the Marathon." I'm such a running geek! I loved the movie. Awesome to see elites on the big screen.
Km : 18

Thursday April 10th -- Day forty-one
Yay! I convinced myself to do my work-out tonight to avoid rainy Friday and weekend intervals. I started with 1x3.7km and followed up with 3x1.85km, all done at around 3:28 pace. I can't seem to get the wheels turning faster than that but I am definitely getting stronger. That work-out was over 9km of intervals!
Km : 19

Friday April 11th -- Day forty-two
Hmmmm day off? Nah. Went for nice'n'easy jog with the iPod for 61 mins.
Km : 14

Saturday April 12th -- Day forty-three
Meet the Huskies up in Bradford and did a hill work-out. I didn't push hard except on a couple of them.
Km : 17

Get ready for this one!
Sunday April 13th -- Day forty-four
6:30 am wake-up. Kinda worried because missed dins last night for a movie so I ate popcorn and late night cereal...not the best before a long run. Doh!
8:30 - 2hr 32min run with Brooks gals and a couple of guys. Felt great, awesome company and delicious gossip!
2:30 - met DrZ for a 90min bike ride on Computrainer (she beat me by a few miles!)
4:00 - 20min run off bike
4:20 - stretch
5:00 - ready to drop and roll. Phew I am tired but I LOVED today!!!!

Sun Apr 6 - Julie's update

I'm finally blogging!

Sat - I had an awesome 5 k run - I felt like I was running really slow until I looked at my watch, and realized I kept up a 6min/km pace throughout. My first "good" run since ATB.

Sun - I attempted 19kms today. I was so hyped from my good run yesterday, but at about the 14km mark (I was doing really well until then), I realized that I was not only still recovering from ATB, but the Indian Food was still hitting my stomach. That or it was the couple of glasses of wine I had last night. Since my run wasn't that good, I decided to go for a brisk 3km walk to my parents house before dinner.

Tomorrow - rest day for me. I might try the pilates video I was forced to buy.

This Angel's out.

Seanna - post race week

Monday
yoga in the p.m. - felt good. My yoga instructor who rocks is going to a west-end studio which sucks, but I'll likely fall off the yoga bandwagon soon as I'm going to Hatteras, and then WORK and all...

Tuesday
easy 35 min bike. Felt good but I can tell I'm being lazy just for the fun of it.

Wednesday
NOTHING. So much running around to get ready to go...

Thursday
17 min easy run - just 'cause it was nice out and I could fit it in between dropping H off and hustling around to do all my other chores. Maybe I'm feeling stressed 'cause I'm not working out enough to release it? Maybe I should schedule a run tomorrow...

Monday March 31st -- Day thirty-one
In Chicago. Went on a llllllllong walk today in the drizzle because I was too stubborn to cab to the conference centre. I'm such a goof! Then I starved till 2pm, at which time I wolfed down a club sandwich and french fries(!!!) I ran less than 2 hours later and nearly threw up all over the place! Oooops.
Km : 14 (iffy)

Tuesday April 1st -- Day thirty-two
April fool's! I had a big meeting so was up super early (5am) then didn't have time to run till after my flight home. At least once I got out the door I felt awesome, despite fatigue and travel.
Km : 17

Wednesday April 2nd -- Day thirty-three
No morning exercise, felt anxious to get to work, lots to do. In pm, went up to Newmarket and did 4x4min tempo but my "tempo" was way off. I guess I was tired from Sunday and travel and busy days. No biggie. We went and saw "Run Fatboy Run" afterwards and it was hilarious!!
Km : 16

Thursday April 3rd -- Day thirty-four
Feeling much better today. Ran in shorts and tee (was 10C, what can I say? I'm eager for spring!) and ran like the wind compared to previous day.
Km : 18

Friday April 4th -- Day thirty-five
Blah, blah, blah-blah. Came home early, took a nap and still I didn't feel motivated. Just did a mileage run
Km : 16

Saturday April 5th -- Day thirty-six
Today is a day to appreciate friends. I called BSDan for some support this morning and he pretty much told me to get my lazy ass out the door. That's exactly what I needed because I did 3 x 1.85km (6:31, 6:25, 6:22) and 2 x 0.94km (3:11). Nice! During the 2nd interval two women were out walking their dogs and they cheered me on. Amazing how the little things make all the difference.  I got faster after that! THEN home, quick shower and off to meet SZ at Absolute End for a 30km bike ride. Thankfully I got a 2km head start so I wasn't embarrassed by SZ smokin' past me!! Right off the bike I ran another 20mins and phew! Nice day of exercise. Giant plate of pancakes followed...
Km : 20

Sunday April 6th -- Day thirty-seven
Plan is for epic long run of 2:30-2:40. Mission accomplished! Ran to Ed's Gdns 38min), met BSD and ran together for another 2:00. I guess I'll call it 35 but deep down I think it was 36km. Wow gorgeous day! Too bad now I must rest or my body will punish me all week for the past 2 days of exertion. I loved every minute of it though!

April 1 Suzanne

way to go at ATB ladies! no surprises there, but still proud of you!

CJ were you able to get outside during lunch today while it was sunny?

am missing my training partner:( it's amazing how important they are to us huh? she's getting ready to kick some butt in Arizona tho, so i'll forgive her her absence.

took a full day off on Friday and while i'm implementing those into my schedule, i can't say i like them much:)

Saturday: thanks to Nic and Jen, I got in an hour of my long run with company. i lifted later that day while Andy went to his trainer session...i confess to watching him out of the corner of my eye and giggling uncontrollably many times:) Piper came to goodlife with me. she's a trainer at Bay and Bloor and always has some new stuff to show me.

Sunday: 5km master's swim practice, ride and lifting. got a great MASSAGE from my friend Suzette who is also my RMT that i don't see that much because she is so kind and gives me a discount and i don't want to over use it. but, i must relate the upper body treatment thing--bet you guys NEVER get that worked on. i didn't before i started swimming and i gotta say it can be as painful as getting your IT bands stripped! still, i love it!

Monday: masters swim in the morning and mount pleasant in the PM: 5 x4minuters with 1 between...with Piper who kicked my butt on the last two, but that's good for me. my tummy still is not cooperating for hard tempo stuff...any suggestions other than not eating for the whole day?

Tuesday: hard bike in the AM and easy swim of drills and steady stuff in the PM followed by legs and abs in the weight room.

re: your diet confession Nic...i think that's ok...you were away on business after all.

Suzanne March 25

ya, we've been bad at staying on top of our posts. 'kay where to start?

Thursday March 20
Cemetery intervals solo with 40k time trial on the bike that went really well...feeling strong...one minute and a bit off Tara's course record time:) (she gets extra kudos tho cuz she raced it solo).

Friday March 21
lovely swim and lifting session with Tara at Toronto Athletic Club...holy swanky spot at the top of the TD towers!

-then an hour run with Nicstah! i need these...her easy runs are making me stronger:)

Saturday March 22
2 hour run easy
40 k bike (a section of Ironman Kona course)

Sunday March 23
easssssy spin followed by 5k swim practice and weights later in the day

Monday March 24
masters swim practice
cemetery interval run with UofT girls...tummy troubles made it pretty problematic...did 5 by 5 minuters but that felt not so good at all...but i was 7 pounds lighter than i was in the morning after that! oh, i wish it were true!

Tuesday march 25
spinervals DVD pretty hard.
prob. an easy swim tonight.

cj update

ran outside yesterday afternoon...only about 4 k i think...but i took a hell of alot of breaks...hadn't run since last wednesday so i was paying the price...
No ice on the sidewalks and beautiful sunshine...
Had a easter cream egg for dessert last nite...oh man those are good...and my justification is that they are only here for easter...
Plan is to run 5.5 k on the treadmill downtown this afternoon

Seanna-na - Race Week

Monday, March 24th
45 min bike in the a.m. I would be running during these sessions, but when it's just an easy recovery run it's actually more of a hassle to get hugsy over to Tanis', etc... so I just bike instead. I know, I probably need the extra miles for the bay, but that's life these days.
p.m. yoga - good sesh - I should sleep well tonight

Tuesday, March 25th
45 min run with 15 x 1 min hard, 1 min easy. So now I'm paranoid that I started my taper too early and that I haven't done enough. I had a chat with BSD today and he basically started training when I started tapering. I was soooo tired though! Anyway, what's done is done, but I'm not overly confident.

Wednesday, March 26th
45 min bike with some pick-ups to keep it interesting. Then swimming with Hugs at noon. I only add this b/c it was exhausting. H no longer likes to just be held in the water, but flails in a direction so that I "swim" him around. He didn't stop moving for the entire 45 mins, so neither did I!

Thursday, March 27th
47 min run w 25 mins at race pace (I think?) Felt good - ran along boardwalk - warm with sun shining - yay!

Friday, March 28th
25 min v easy bike. Really just an excuse to take a shower 'cause sometimes I forget if I don't work out!

Sat, March 29th
23 mins at a comfortably fast-ish pace. Felt good. Think I'm feeling ready as I'll ever be!

Nicstah Week Quattro

Monday March 24th -- Day twenty-four
Dudettes, where is everyone and where are the updates???? Ok I was totally planning on taking today off exercise...but some rest, some java, some yoga, some sunshine and I had to head out.
Km : 15

Tuesday March 25th -- Day twenty-five
HOLD THE PRESS! Today is the day. Ok it helps that it's absolutely miserable outside AND that traffic was brutal so I got home after 6pm, just in time to catch the latest airing of Y&R...so today is a REST day. I debated biking but then figured heck! chill Girlfriend.
Km : 0!!!!

Wednesday March 26th -- Day twenty-six
Today is slated to be a double. This morning I leapt out of bed (must have been the rest day!) and headed out for an early 40min. It was a lot icier than expected and so steps were slow-going. Then, with just 1 mile to go, I turned a corner and BAM! first wipe-out of the year!!! And a good one too. Full on face-plant with bloody knees, elbows and wrists to boot. Argh.
In the evening I met up with the Huskies and we ran 60 min with 6 x 3min hard / 2 min jog.
Km : 23

Thursday March 27th -- Day twenty-seven
Oy. The grumps persist. Oh well. 74min run easy
Km : 17

Friday March 28th -- Day twenty-eight
What is UP? I feel like death. My bones hurt, if that is possible. After 10 mins I wanted to just head home.
Km : 10

Saturday March 29th -- Day twenty-nine
Bright and early (and cold!) run with my pals. Still very sore but at least my mood is improving. Geez. I don't like myself this week!!
Km : 12

Sunday March 30th -- Day thirty
ATB!!! Amazing how soreness goes away on race day. I guess the last few days were all psychosomatic for me. The run went really well. I felt kind of bored/uncomfortable/doubtful from kms 13-17 but at 18 I sprung back to life! 10k splits : 39:00, 38:35, 37:50 Woohoo! Off to Chicago in pm.

Suzanne/week3

WOOOHOOO--way to go CJ! you'll be under 30 mins in no time! very proud of you!

Seanna, who are you coaching? love it that you are starting that! is it with Nigel or on your own?

soooo, slept thru my alarm and missed my masters swim practice so did a Troy (spinnervals) DVD instead and will hit the pool tonight...boo tho, as it's so much better to swim with others. hmmm, there is someone i might be able to persuade to do a double and swim with me tonight.

got a bike 40k time trial with (among others) Tara at Absolute Endurance tomorrow evening on the computrainer. am running intervals in MP in the morning with Piper at 7:45... Seanna if you want to come and push the babe around or leave him playing with Ross then do come:)

yesterday was a brick...hard bike of 1:15 followed by 45 min run. didn't get lifting in cuz wanted to come see you lovely ladies instead:) that means i'll have to try to squeeze them in tonight.

will let you know how the TT goes. it's a BEAT the PROS TT...yeah, that ain't gonna happen:)

Nicolita Week Three

Monday March 17th -- Day seventeen
Oy vey she's a tired, hungry machine today! I meant to do some kind of exercise in the morning (stretch, circuit, spin?) but nothing happened. I felt brutal but after a day full of excessive water intake, I felt better by late afternoon. I ran 1:16 easy and enjoyed every minute of it. I was thinking of working out tomorrow but I might give myself one more day of recovery.
Km: 17

Tuesday March 18th -- Day eighteen
To work out or rest an extra day? Made a call to Coach H and he advised just an easy run with tempo with the group tomorrow night. I'll take the rare advice to rest!
Km: 17

Wednesday March 19th -- Day nineteen
Up north 12.5km in 50mins with a 25min cool down. Always good to see my running peeps. No cross training or circuits in ages. That will be a goal this weekend.
Km: 17

Thursday March 20th -- Day twenty
Wow busy one for the first day of spring. Up at 5am to catch 7am flight to Montreal. 5+ hours of meetings then flight and drive home. Phew! Snuck in 1hr easy. Need to stretch and hydrate. Thank goodness the weekend has started. Yahoooo!
Km: 14

Friday March 21st -- Day twenty-one
Woohoo 63 days to go! Today SZ and I met up to enjoy the sunshine during a run and a walk in Leaside and bought some healthy grub for dins. But a trash mag sucked me in when I got home and now I need to do circuits or some kind of core stuff and clean all the cat fur in here.
Km : 17

Saturday March 22nd -- Day twenty-two
Early bird work-out (7:30am) in Newmarket. We did some hills (4x780m), 1x1.8km then 2.7km of the hill loop consecutively. Good show for a freezing March day. Still no extras in terms of circuits/biking but oh well. I feel good and fit.
Km : 18

Sunday March 23rd -- Day twenty-three
Dragged Krista (all the way from Orillia) and BSDan out for 2:10 very easy. I called it 30km but it was probably more like 28-29. Whatevs. It all balances out in the wash, right? I love these 4-day weekends. Wish we had more of them!
Km : 30

Km : 130
X-train : NONE!

Seanna - Week of March 17 - 23

Okay, I'm going to take on Nic's format and do this all as one week posts to keep the headers a bit more organized. Although they're going to get less exciting from here on in as I take it down for the race...

Monday, March 17th
1 hour 13 min run. Really nice sunny day, but felt tired. Body tired, not lack of sleep tired. Went pretty easy mostly back and forth along the boardwalk with some loops in the Beach neighbourhoods.
p.m. - am going to Asthanga yoga tonight which for some reason always seems to be a great workout for me. I feel I need the stretching and my mind needs some peace...

Tuesday, March 18th
45 min bike. Did about 20 mins of 1 minute on, 1 min off (alternating high cadence w high resistence).

Wednesday, March 19th
Off. This is my first completely off day in a while. Feeling tired and a tad unmotivated.

Thursday, March 20th
First day of Spring! Did Ross' workout #1 along boardwalk - 4 x 6 min hard w 2 min easy. Worked hard but felt flat-ish/deep body tired, especially at the end. Had to concentrate to finish it, but I did. Walked the last little bit of my cool-down home. Holy, I hope I bounce back from this bit of fatigue. It's one of those where you wouldn't really notice it in your day to day life, just in workouts (I don't even necessarily notice it on the bike). Anyway, I guess that's about it for my hard bits 'till the race. I have one more short tempo this weekend and I'll probably do a taper workout next week.

Friday, March 21st
Easy 30 min jog. Normally I take Fridays off but since Dan was here I thought I'd enjoy the sunshine. Went super easy. For some reason I've been craving (and drinking) Coke lately?!? Weird. Not Diet Coke (which I used to drink but for some reason haven't felt like since being pregnant) but the Real Thing. I don't think I've had Coke since I was a kid (apart from the odd one or two mixed with Rum). Hmmm... oh well, I'll indulge it a bit and hope it goes away.

Saturday, March 22nd
Easy short "tempo". Did 10 min warm-up then 20 min tempo along the Spit (creative with my routes, aren't I?) Still feeling flat and tired - came down with a sore throat last night, so at least there's a reason for it. I hope this sickness gets out of my system before next weekend. Hugsy's been coughing a lot (yesterday and through the night) so I guess we have the same thing. Anyway, turned my "tempo" into a bit of a slower workout - more like 30 K race pace. Ah well, I can tell my bod doesn't want to be pushed right now or it might push me over the edge.

Sunday, March 23rd
40 min easy. Exciting post, eh?

Sunday, March 16, 2008

Seanna - Sat/Sun

Wow, Suzanne! Your workouts are insane! In a great way. Why the 2 hour runs? I agree with Nic- Ironman or at least Half, here you come! Isn't Tara a long-course athlete?

CJ, nice job on the run. I'm an obsessive pee-er before I head out the door 'cause I hate stopping if I'm in a groove. Also, it's tough to pull a "Paula" in the winter as there's less foliage for cover.

Saturday I ran with an athlete who I'm coaching for the Mississauga Marathon. I had him doing a 25 min tempo run so we ran along the spit. It ended up being 55 mins of running, but quite slow. I think I'm being generous in calling it 7 miles.

Sunday (today) I did my own tempo along the spit. Great footing, gorgeous sparkling water on either side of me, and super sunny. Unfortunately the wind was at my back on the way out, but I kept it strong the whole way. Managed to do 45 min at tempo pace. Calling the whole thing 9 miles (again, generous - probably really 8 +, but whatevs). That was my last long tempo. Now just to keep the workouts in to stay sharp but take down the overall effort and mileage...

Saturday, March 15, 2008

Saturday/Suzanne

long time no post. for starters, my earlier "concerns" were unfounded!!! woohoo!

CJ you must learn from us the ability to pee ANYWHERE/ANYTIME on a run:) way to go tho on finishing a run that doesn't feel great. Nic, killer workout splits! i think the chocolates is ok...were they real Belgian chocolates at least? as i said the other day, you look great so no worries!

Seanna way to go keeping up the cross training and the Ross runs! you're gonna kick butt and uphold the buff and beautiful yummy mummy winning title:)

so...i think i'll start with thursday: wimpy attempt at intervals (4 x 6 mins in cemetary) not so fast...followed a few hours later with some upper body (mostly shoulder weights) immediately into a swim set with Tara of 3.4km (warm up and 4 x 600m broken: 1 x 600m, 15 -20 sec rest then into 3 x 200 which we were doing in 1:23/100m pace. we did that twice with a cool down....that was really hard after weights which, i guess, was the point.

Friday: 1hour 15ish swim with Tara: 1000m straight, 3 x 300m hard, 100 easy, 1000m pull (i hate pull and Tara rocks at pull...my swim is all kick!) cool down (tho did a few more km).

then 2 hour run in the pm! thanks to Nic for the first 1:15! 'kay, was doing this on a friday night so i could ride Saturday and not have to run...but i have to say that was veryyyyy tiring!

Saturday: 3 hour computrainer ride of Ironman Switzerland course....hooooolllly that was tough. I ran for 15mins off the bike cuz i need to start getting the hang of that again. all i can say is that I was going hard, and Tara was more than a few Kms ahead of me! that girl can ride!
T's got a stacked field in Arizona in April but i'd put my money on her!

NEW running mag: Kevin and Alex are the eds of the new Canada Running mag--cool huh? also, Nicaroo, did you see the mention of lament re: you and the last olympics??? it's in the beginning somewhere. love that people know what a shitty thing that was and how much you rock!

its a beautiful dayyyy...

but my run was not the best...first outdoor run in a while and not properly nourished (my fault..), did only about 3 miles but my last half mile felt really really good...also, should have went pee before I left...not to self for next run...
Enjoy the sunshine gals!
cj
ps.s no bugaboo today maybe tomorrow...

Seanna - Friday, March 14

Easy 30 min bike while bberrying my mom friends about sleep issues (for once I was giving advice not asking for it!). Point being, it was a very easy recovery ride. Good thing I made it short too 'cause H took a super short nap and woke up while I was just getting out of the shower. So no blow-dry for me today. Oh and I hit the pool at noon with H. Does that count for anything? Probably not - we just floated in the warm baby pool while chit-chatting with other moms. BUT my skin is getting used to the chlorine for when I start the swimming part of my program...

From CJ...

Had a crappy day yesterday at work and totally skipped out on my plan to run 5 k in under 37 min...felt like crap because of that...
But, had a nice din with Nicster who re-motivated me....
In Oakville babysitting d-man's neice with d-man (OMG!)
Plan is to check out mapmyrun.com and find a leisurely 6 k route in port credit...contemplating pushing sophie in the bugaboo?!?!
wish me luck...

Dietary confessions - NS

So m plan for the 84 days is to eat normally (moderate portions for me) but to exclude all alcohol and as much of the sweet stuff as possible.

As March 12th, so far so good! Small confession: I ate the chocolates (1 square) on my pillow in my hotel room each day while I was in Berlin. I also ate the dessert of apple crisp one night because I was still starving after dinner and had no other options...considering my typical calorie consumption I think I'm doing ok.

Seanna - Thursday, March 13

Ross' Wrkt #1 - 3 x 8 min on, 2 min rec. Feeling flat - went out along the spit - very windy and didn't seem to make as much distance as usual for the time. Total - 45 min - calling it 7 miles. I felt like I was doing more of a tempo effort than workout pace - not too peppy.

Wednesday, March 12, 2008

Seanna - Wednesday, March 12

Easy bike with some pick-ups so I sweated a bit. A bit tired from yesterday and have to recover for my workout tomorrow. 50 mins total.

Nicster Week Two

Monday March 10 -- Day ten
In Berlin. Ran 1:20, nice to run here on a path beside the river although I got lost for 10 minutes when I made a wrong turn on the way home. Doh!
Km: 18

Tuesday March 11 -- Day eleven
In Berlin. Not much time so huffed it for 62mins at solid tempo pace (I ran as fast as I could, felt like a little kid!) Not sure if people were staring at me because of my pace, my casper skin tone or that I was the only person around in shorts and a tee. Hey +10C is warm to me!!
Km: 15

Wednesday March 12 -- Day twelve
Return from Berlin. Traveled 10+ hours. Got home and made BSDan run with me. Surprisingly I felt good on the run and challenged poor Dan who was still recovering from his long run. Sorry!
Km: 17

Thursday March 13 -- Day thirteen
Ok not to be an ego freak but I'm pretty proud of myself today. I left work close to 4pm then headed out the door: 6km warm-up then 8.4km(!!!!!) of intervals. Average was 3:30/km so not too speedy but I'm impressed I did it all without slacking off on the long intervals. Yay! I also did 25min of circuits in the morning. Maybe I should fly overseas more often? Seems to increase my motivation.
Km: 17

Fri/Sat Mar 14-15 -- Days four/fifteen
Easy run with SZ Friday evening. Nice and sunny out. Thank goodness the snow is melting! Saturday ran with BBLJ for easy 12. Amazing how short 12km feels these days!
Km: 29 (2 days)

Sunday March 16 - Day sixteen : EXECUTION RUN!!!
Met Coach and the Brooks group up in Newmarket at the marsh. It was freezing up there compared to my 'hood! Ran with LK, TQS, Hugo and BW(she had to bail early due to foot issues, poor lass). We did 35km at pretty even, relaxed pace of 3:58/km average then motored the last 2km. I hit 6:48, TQS 6:39 and LK and Hugo just back from me about 8 seconds. I have only three words to describe how I feel: I AM BACK!
When I returned home I hopped into a cold bath and 1 hour later I'm still freezing. I can't wait for a heavenly din tonight with SZ!! Anyone else free to join?
Km: 35

Week totals:
Km: 130
Cross train: 30min circuits

March 12 2008

CJ here....
I ran my 5km in a record time of 37 min and 15 sec! I feel like i ahve just been hit by a mack truck.....
And I am having a mexican bean salad for lunch while my assistant outside my office is having MacDonalds! OMG help me!

Tuesday, March 11

Wow, way to go on the swimming Suzanne! I have no idea about swimming times, but you sound fast, flip turns be damned. Good luck in the meet! I may take up a bit of swimming once this race is done - my local pool times are after H is in bed and I am still planning on doing some tri's this summer. I'll pick your brain for workouts.

On to today's wrkt - 2 hour run. Solid for first 50 mins (Leslie St Spit), then some dodgy footing (along path to Beach), then ran along sidewalks (sort of frustrating, but I don't think quality was sacrificed too badly). Last 20 mins are always tough - tried to feel like I was picking it up (which probably meant I wasn't slowing down too badly). Whew, last long run down! Hope it carries me through The Bay.

2hour tuesday

oops, i misread Seanna, you still have another week to go and 2 hrs tomorrow! if today is an indication of what to expect it'll be lovely!

i love that you're biking so much too!
Suzanne

Suzanne

excellent blogging Seannana! and way to go on the running too:) have a good taper:) i couldn't figure out the posting, but now i think i've got it.

haven't resolved my VERY late period, but have taken 2 pregnancy tests and they were both negative...so, i must be stressed and training lots??? or something? still, quite unsettling. maybe i should be doing fish oils? any ideas short of not worrying about it and delaying it even further?

anyhooo....3km swim this morning with Masters. nothing crazy, but i did manage a 2:33 200m at the end of the workout...which is not bad....i'm swimming master's provincial champs at the end of the month (the 50 free and the 1500). it'll be my first swim meet ever:) but it's short course and my flip turns/streamline aint what they should be, so not expecting too much.

went outside for workout tonight to the cemetery with Donna and Piper (do you guys know Piper?). 6 x 3 mins with 1:00 recovery which was a welcome break in track volume and intensity and made for a nice run that ended up being 1:20 due to the super slushy and peopled sidewalks getting up there! still, it was BEAUTIFUL and sunny out!

how are the streets of Berlin? and CJ are we gonna get you racing???

Monday, March 10th

Ok, total foot in mouth re the 'slacking' comment. Suzanne, I didn't see your post on the Comments section. Oh. My. God! I was feeling stressed about my 2 hour run tomorrow, but now I'm telling myself to "suck it up, Buttercup" 'cause your workouts are putting me in my place! Way to go! Hope your hammy/hip feels better.

Today I did a 50 min bike. On rec days I kind of go easyish - enough to sweat, but not killing it.

Nicaroo, hope you can post from Berlin before your batts die.

Seanna

Sunday, March 9th

1 hour run with 40 min tempo along Leslie St. Spit. Good footing and not too windy. Called it 8 miles. Fairly solid effort, but I'm feeling that deep down tired from hard training. I feel like I need an easy week but only have one more big week until I start taking it down. Hopefully I can hold on.

Ummm... are you ladies slacking on the blogging or slacking on the training???

Seanna

Saturday, March 8th

Arrrgghhh!! SOOO pissed off. Tried to do my tempo but gave up at 27 min (only 17 min of "tempo") - horrible visibility, crappy footing, freezing snow in my face and motivation wasn't tip-top to start with! Had to get home so ended up being a 54 min junk run with very bad attitude the whole way. How am I supposed to train in this shit? May try to make the trek up to my gym tonight to get on the treadmill if I can make the drive and if I have the motivation and energy after I've put Hugsy to bed... I don't envision it being much better tomorrow.

Friday, March 7

Nice one on the 5km CJ! Did a 47 min easy rec bike this a.m. Nicole can attest to the fact it was easy - I was on the phone with her for half of it and she didn't even notice I was on the bike! Am craving junk food today I think b/c of my long run yesterday. Am trying to keep it under control. Hopefully the 20 cm of snow will wait until after my tempo tomorrow...

Seanna
Testing this out...it's CJ

I ran my best run ever yesterday...5K! and I felt like a million bucks...

After my terrible run on Wednesday, only 2.5 miles and full of breaks cuz of a pain in my side, i decided to make sure i ate prior (an orange) and was fully hydrated...

Unfortunetly, way too busy today to get in a run but I hope tomorrow...although probably inside on a treadmill unless nic wants to dig my out of a snowbank in front of our building!

Thurs, March 6
I just made a very healthy stir-fry (tons of veggies and tofu) and am now on my 2nd (!) glass of wine post long-run. I feel I deserve it. I know this isn't about training, but I'm testing the new blogger format. Had a good afternoon nap and some stretching, so I feel I'm recovering well from my run.

Week One

Saturday March 1st -- Day one of the 84 days of discipline
I'm in Charlottesville, Virginia visiting Molly Pancake for her baby shower. I arrived last night after driving part-way Thursday and the last 7 hours yesterday.
It is nice and mild here but fairly windy. At least there is no snow or ice like at home.
Today I ran 2:00 through a rural area (it is super hilly here!) and called it 28km. I felt great and really enjoyed running in new scenery. I did a light stretch afterwards then got ready for the shower.

Sunday March 2nd -- Day two
I made a dumb-ass move this morning. Since yesterday was so nice out I hopped out the door at 8am in shorts and a long sleeve. Yeeeowzah it was only 0C! Oooops. I ran 38 mins around UVa campus. 9km
Later in the afternoon I did another 41mins to make the day's total 18km
Kms: 18

Monday March 3rd -- Day three
At 8:30am I headed out the door (full gear today: running pants and long sleeve but t-shirt and shorts underneath) and headed to the UVa track. My warm-up was about 5km with 1 mile on the track striding the straights. I did 7.2km of intervals on the track but felt very sluggish with tight shoulders and my times showed I was "off." Funny part was when I finished an 80-something year old man who had been walking laps around the track came over and chatted with me. When I told him I was Canadian he told me about Cdn cities and their history and then told me about my own Western European heritage; it was all very amusing. He advised me to run shorter stuff to save my joints but after I told him I'd run 20 marathons already, he figured I knew what I was doing (or that there was no changing this old dog).
I hung out with Molly the rest of the day then started my trek home at 6:30pm and made it half-way home and spent the night in Pittsburgh.

Tuesday March 4th -- Day four
It was cold and rainy outside my hotel room when I got up so I did 20 mins of circuits in my room instead then headed back out on the road. I stopped near Erie to hit the outlet shops (terrible me! more BR pants and button-downs!)
When I got home I cleaned my apartment then headed out for an easy 67mins. I felt great!

Wednesday March 5th -- Day five
Rode bike indoors 30 mins at 11am. Kept cadence high but I am slow! Average 26km/hr
Evening: York work-out. 5k jog, 4x200m in 37 or so
Set 1: 1k 3:20, 400m 1:14
Set 2: 2k 6:43, 400m 1:14
Set 3: 1k 3:20, 400m 1:13 (kinda consistent, eh??)
Set 4: 400m 1:21, 400m 1:12
Phew! SO much better than Monday's workout in Virginia. Ready to fly!!!
